Top Ten Tips for Adding Fragrance to Your Home

There is nothing nicer than walking into a beautifully fragrant home. It indicates that this house is loved and cared for. Help to make your home comforting and welcoming with these top 10 fragrance tips.

1. Use a Reed Scent Diffuser; these are my favourite as they are a safe, pleasant and natural alternative to plug-ins and air sprays. The reeds once inserted into the bottle of scented diffuser oil slowly draw the scent acting as a natural wick and gradually release fragrance into the surrounding area. They are a wonderful, unique and stylish way to fragrance any room.

2. Add a couple of drops of essential oil or fragrance oil to the inner hem of curtains - open the windows and let the fresh air in. The curtains gently wafting in fresh air acts to disperse the fragrance into the room.

3. Fresh herbs added to bowls of water, then positioned around a room add a subtle fragrance. Try your favourite herbs or create your own combinations.

4. One of my favourites is to put a drop of my favourite fragrance oil into the filter/baof my vacuum cleaner. Of course it would be your responsibility to check that it would not damage your particular cleaner or cause a hazard in anyway.

5. Sprinkle a few drops of fragrance or essential oil onto your hall carpet/rug as a scented welcome to your home

6. Boil Cinnamon sticks in water for a wonderful aroma in your kitchen

7.Scented candles, of course, or create your own scented candles easily with wax beads. You can put together your own combination of fragrances and colourful displays. The only limit is your own imagination

8. Put a few drops of essential or fragrance oil onto a cloth and wipe over your radiators. The heat from your radiators will help to disperse the fragrance into the room

9. Oil Burner; use an oil burner to disperse fragrance. Try a double-welled oil burner to enable you to mix favourite scents or use shaped wax melts

10. For a totally natural and traditional method to fragrance your home, add a well-placed scented flower arrangement to any room.

To get rid of stubborn odours:

Place a bowl of white vinegar in an area of the room where the unpleasant odour is the strongest, making sure it is in a safe place. Rather than covering up the odour, this method should totally eliminate it. After 24 hours the odour will be almost unnoticeable and within another 24 hours it will be entirely gone.

Please be advised that should you carry out any of the tips above you would be responsible for checking potential risk/hazard to home and person.
