Brand Fragrance, Machine Scent and Branding Strategies

For any company trying to market and sell a new or existing product or service, coming up with a property marketing strategy to build a brand image is very important. Most branding strategies in the past have focused on adhering to a consumer's sense of sight or hearing through logos and slogans to develop a brand strategy. Recently, more and more companies have developed branding strategies which attempt to develop a brand by using a consumer's sense of smell.

While it may make most sense for branding strategies to use brand-fragrance to market products such as colognes, perfumes, detergents, or cleaning supplies, all products could benefit by developing a brand fragrance. A brand fragrance could be used to make consumers think or feel a certain way. For example, a realtor will often bake cookies to create a brand fragrance that makes potential home purchasers feel at home when they enter a house.

Since baking cookies or developing natural fragrances is not practical for all businesses in all situations, many retailers depend on machine scent to develop a brand fragrance. Through the use of scent machines, a machine scent can be developed to help maximize a brand fragrance. Virtually all businesses which bring customers into a store could benefit by sending out a machine scent to help entire consumers to purchase a product. Once the scent is easily recognized by consumers, a company could benefit by sending out mailers or leaflets which contain the scent. This may entice consumers to come back to the store.
