Choose Your Perfect Fragrance

A woman or maybe a guy walks by you by and you barely gave notice. However when they walk away, a scent so exciting is left behind. You simply can't fight it and you turn your head back. "Who was that," you will ask yourself.

Such are the effects of perfumes. While you may love this reaction, don't go out immediately and purchase yourself a number of women's fragrances. There should be a couple of things that you consider, as women's fragrances are as complex as dresses, shoes and accessories. Think of it like this, a perfume is like a fingerprint. The scent that your body gives off will react to the type of fragrance that you will wear. That is why it is essential to determine your own "smell" first before buying perfumes of different scents.

It is said that if you purchased the correct perfume, you will have a positive outlook which would transcend on how you view your own personal and professional life. The right scent also induces optimism which results in more energy and enthusiasm.

You have to purchase something that compliments your overall character. Consider the various scents so you can determine whether they truly match your style, character and body chemistry. If you are a good shopper you can often find discount perfume, which is not a replica, but rather a perfume that is on sale. Cheap perfume is like cheap wine - the quality is not there.

Let's look at different types of scents:

Chypre fragrances gives off a woody, floral, and mossy base and citrus base scents which comprises of fruity scents like grapefruit, lemon, or tangerine. A different set of scents are floral which seems to be one of the most popular in 2010.

Available too are Oriental or amber types. These scents give off aromas like musk, vanilla, spice, animal scents and combination of flowers and woods. These are very sexy scents.

The most effective tip in getting a perfume is to take it easy and do not be hasty. When a new scent comes out on the shelves don't go rushing in. Spend some time. See, or rather smell, if the perfume is absolutely something that you would really like. Again, if you are on a budget, be careful and buy discount perfumes - wait until they are on sale versus buying inexpensive perfume. When trying on scent, make certain you apply just a tad on the back of each wrist. Then go around your normal business. Eat at the mall or go shopping with friends, check out a movie.

After a while, smell the fragrance against your wrist. If you love the scent then by all means consider purchasing it. The reason behind this little experiment is the fact that scents transform as time passes when put on to your body. Body chemistry differs on each person too. Just what might smell good on your friend may not that great on you. Also, what smells great on you now might not be that good after a couple of hours.

There are different notes in perfume. Women's fragrances are constructed with layers. The first one is the scent you smell once you apply the perfume. This layer emits the first impression but dies out quite fast. The center layer of a perfume consists of the scent of the fragrance as it mellows or reacts to your skin or body chemistry.

You can smell this layer in thirty minutes or so after applying the fragrance. The last layer would be the base and contains the more potent scents. It's the main theme of the perfume and it'll blend with the middle layer. This smell usually comes out after thirty minutes or so of applying the perfume.

After the scent has reached this layer, only then can you really ascertain if the fragrance is something that you would like and compliments your character.

If you realise that commercial perfumes don't match your personality, you could invariably try to make your own scent. There are a lot of methods to make your own. You could do some experimentation with perfume oils or essential oils.

You might also see the quest for perfume making being an exciting pastime and could easily get simply addicted at the countless possibilities of fragrances or perfumes. Commercial perfumes are made form synthetic chemicals which give off quite different scents from natural essential oils. But to make your own perfume also means to create a scent that is only yours and yours alone.

The Real Perfume Creators Are the Great Artisan Noses

The stunning growth of the high-end luxury perfume business in the last two decades has been centered in the celebrity endorser, designer category. Actresses, athletes, models and fashion designers have introduced dozens of new scents; each seeking to lure consumers based on the aura created by the endorsing personality.

Whether you admire Michael Jordan's basketball skills, Narciso Rodriguez' modernist Spanish designs or Jennifer Lopez' singing or acting talents, the marketers of these fragrance brands seek to profit from the perceived lifestyle allure of their licensee's. What very few people realize is that branded fragrances are rarely, if ever, actually created by the endorser.

The perfume industry is a multi-billion dollar international enterprise. The marketers of branded fragrance products, however, rarely, if ever, develop and produce their own scents. This is a specialty business handled by large essential oil houses like IFF, Robertet, and Givaudan. These companies not only formulate scents, but they harvest and source the flora, fauna and the exotic natural ingredients that provide the base for their fragrances. Many of these biologically diverse plants and animal by-products are rare, expensive and fragile, requiring a great deal of special handling and knowledge.

An example is the whale by-product ambergris. Whales are not harvested to obtain ambergris. This is skimmed from the surface of the ocean, above swimming pods of whales, Ambergris is simply whale vomit. It is exceedingly valuable and crucial as a component in many exotic scent bases.

The high cost of perfume is attributed to the expense of obtaining essential oils from rare and expensive plants. Rare orchids can yield only a few drops of oil per plant harvested and processed. The processing of essential oils is it's own industry.

Companies like Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden and Lancome do not produce any of their own fragrances. They typically meet with perfume houses such as Givaudan, provide guidance as to their desired scent direction, and then await and evaluate submissions from the integrated houses chosen to bid on the project. Once a favored prototype scent is chosen then the perfume house is contracted to perfect the scent and produce the oils.

The creation of perfume is part science, part marketing, part branding, and a whole lot of art. The art of designing unique, commercial fragrances is entrusted to the "nose" retained by the perfume house. "Noses" are rare, coddled, gifted and possess a talent so unusual that there are only a few recognized "noses" in the world at any given time.

I have had the good fortune to work with one of the greatest, most successful "noses" of the second half of the 20th century. Francis Camail is a legend in the world of creative perfumery. The list of his achievements is stunning. Watching and experiencing his work is to view the efforts of a "master".

Mr. Camail, working from his laboratory in Grasse, France has been the creative genius behind Annick Goutal, Revlon's Charlie (at one time the most popular scent in the world), Giorgio (the most profitable brand of the 1980's), Estee Lauder's Aliage, Eternity (Calvin Klein), Ivoire (Pierre Balmain) and Bond #9. These are only a few of the brands that have germinated from his ability to create scents that consumer's desire and loyally purchase on a repeat basis.

Mr. Camail is unique in that he is an independent contractor hired out by large, international perfume houses on a per job contract basis. His reputation is so powerful that he has the ability to be exceedingly selective in the clients he chooses to work with. To view the process he utilizes to layer, build and nurture various top notes, dry notes and a final bouquet is to experience a true artisan master at work.

The creative process necessary to produce luxury perfumery is an old-world, artisan craftsman skill that can not be taught. Francis Camail does employ assistants and interns, as do most other "noses". However, very few of them, if any, ever go on to successfully conquer the mystical world of exotic fragrance. His skills are apparently God given.

In a world of mass production and industrialization, it is reassuring to know that skills such as those provided by perfumery "noses" are still extant, and essential. The world still has nooks and crannies that appreciate and value craft and artisan skills and abilities.

Wonderful Fragrance Gifts for Christmas 2010

Is there anything better to give as a gift than perfume? Since we cannot buy romance, enticement or sensuality, I would say perfume comes mighty close. This year there is a wide selection of delightful fragrances to choose from that would please any present-opener. Let's review some of the top new perfumes you can buy this year:

Nina L'Elixir by Nina Ricci:
No perfume is energizing the market quite like Nina L'Elixir. It sweet red apple inspired scent, served up in a jewel-like glass apple bottle, this is truly a magical Love Potion. This perfume was clearly designed with the modern flirty & fun woman in mind, who knows how to emphasize her natural charm. Add in some notes of Calabrian Lemon and Caipirinha Lime and this truly mesmerizing feminine fragrance has inspired many a fragrance shopper to rush out and grab this Nina Ricci delight. (by the way, you can find more Nina scents through the author info, below)

Trésor in Love from Lancôme:
Few perfumes are so bold to outwardly include the term Love in its name, but Lancôme has never been known to shy away. Deemed to have a fruity, somewhat tart, aura; this Trésor features bergamot, pink pepper, sour pear and nectarine scents. In its beautiful pink classic long bottle, with a black rose tied daintily at its neck, many would "love" to see this under the tree.

Lady Million by Paco Rabanne:
An elegant fragrance, Lady Million provides a largely floral scent that gives its wearer a certain grace. Containing just the right amount of sweetness, the fruit-touched element of this perfume hold raspberry with slight gourmand. Held in a precious metallic-style gold casing, many young ladies will enjoy its luxury.

Thierry Mugler's Angel:
Suited so well to winter, this endearing fragrance has been said to have a heavy vanilla odor. Seemingly perfect for the winter, it is a perfume that can invoke visions of baked treats and chocolates made during the holidays. Angel is certainly a unique perfume, sold in its star glass bottle with a bluish hue.

Joy of Pink from The House of Lacoste:
Full of energy, Joy of Pink exhilarates the soul and provides a grapefruit laced splash. You will also experience Blue Curacao and slight Peony touches. As a great scent for a young lady, coming in a slender pink bottle (naturally), this perfume rounds out a collection of Lacoste fragrances that include Love of Pink, Dream of Pink, and Touch of Pink.

Many exciting perfumes are invigorating Christmas shoppers looking for that perfect "for her" gift. Personally, I hope to find an apple bottle of a certain Nina Ricci Perfume under my tree this year. I hope this at least starts your search in the right direction for the right scent.

Men's Guide to Choosing That Perfect Woody or Aromatic Fragrance

One's choice in fragrance really speaks volumes about who you are, a man's fragrance is his identity, his mantra if you will. Think of choosing a man's fragrance to be not unlike that of what you choose to drink. Each boasts numerous options, whilst some are suitable for special occasions (i.e. Champagne) others are perfect for a far more laid back scenario (i.e. Beer).

Fragrances with a fresh and citrus hint to them, such as D&G's Masculine, could be worn during a walk in the park or even whilst working out at the gym - it would serve to energise, refresh and revitalise oneself. Choosing a more woody, spicy or aromatic fragrance to wear on a dinner date or after-work soiree, would evoke masculinity, sophistication and even suggest a hint of manly ruggedness.

The following is a roundup of my favourite fragrances (in no particular order) that are chiefly aromatic or woody in nature:

L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme - RRP: £44 (75ml)

"This luminous woody fragrance opens with fresh notes of jasmine, citrus and star anise, leading to notes of hibiscus, patchouli, sandalwood, lapsang tea and bitter cacao bean."

This has to be one my favourites of this list, as it exudes a fantastically masculine yet exotic aroma which gradually fades, leaving a charmingly distinct scent of sandalwood which will remain for hours.

Gucci Pour Homme - RRP: £46 (100ml)

"Gucci Pour Homme Edt Spray by Gucci was launched 2004. It is a spicy, oriental blend. The scent is intense and lush, spicy and aromatic with notes of leather and amber. Full bodied, romantic and very masculine Gucci Pour Homme Edt Spray is recommended for Romantic wear."

Leathery and manly is definitely the order of the day with this fragrance, this EDT would compliment your favourite pair of lofas and your most debonair button up collared shirt. It says I am the man I've always wanted to be, I am successful and sophisticated, seduction is my chapel and women my prayer.

Fahrenheit by Dior - RRP: £40 (100ml)

"A resolutely contemporary fragrance characterized by a meeting of extremes. Fresh, elegant notes blend in perfect harmony with bolder, more virile overtones to create a scent that is warm, subtle, and distinguished."

Opens with a very earthy, dusty mellow lavender - you are then left with a very woody and leathery base. This is a distinctively recognisable classic (released 1998), that never fails to impress and intrigue and like all good quality fragrances remains (and transforms in aroma) for quite some time.

Safari by Ralph Lauren - RRP: £48 (125ml)

"Introduced By Ralph Lauren in 1992. SAFARI is a refreshing. spicy. lavender. amber fragrance. This Perfume has a blend of lemon. lavender. leather. cinnamon. oakmoss and sandalwood. It is recommended for daytime wear."

This is definitely a scent for the most rugged of men out there, incredibly spicy with sandalwood roots. Wearing this fragrance you cannot deny smelling noticeably fresh, like having just emerged from a bath lathered with tarragon and lavender and doused with old worn saddle leather.

Well there you have it, these are the top choices to keep an eye out for if you are looking for a new woody or aromatic scent. All of these fragrances are incredibly versatile, manly, woody and yet suggestively seductive - but not overbearing by any means and would be a welcomed addition to any man's fragrance collection.

Choosing The Right Womens Fragrance Advice

Choosing the right women's fragrance can be tricky especially if you want to give it as a gift. Fragrance can be as distinctive as clothing and not everyone has the same tastes and preferences when it comes to a lot of things, fragrances included. Giving women's fragrance as a gift can be a statement of how well you know the woman you are giving the gift to and how good a friend you are.

If you are buying for yourself, then the task is not as difficult as buying for someone else since you rely mostly on your own preferences and likes. It is usually what appeals to you that you purchase and there are no other things to consider other than this. There are a variety of women's fragrances available in the perfume market today and some of these have similar bases that can make choosing difficult.

One tip when sniffing women's fragrances to choose from is to give your nose a rest after smelling around three to five scents. The tendency is that you will not be able to differentiate from the others after several sniffs and this will add to the confusion of choosing a women's fragrance.

Choosing Women's Fragrance

Buying women's fragrance as a gift can be tricky. You need to know the personality of the person you intend to give the fragrance to before anything other consideration. The woman's personality can decide what kind of fragrance suits her well. Perfumes are the strongest kinds of scents, other than essential oils, which are seldom used as an accessory. Colognes and eau de toilettes are not as strong as perfumes and are usually lighter and less cloying.

For women who are sophisticated and older, perfumes may suit them better while colognes and eau de toilettes suit the younger, more spirited individuals. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule, and here is where the personality of the person comes in to dictate which women's fragrance is suitable for her. An older but spirited woman might enjoy the lighter scents of colognes and eau de toilettes while a more formal younger lady will prefer a perfume.

Choosing the right women's fragrance can be confusing and very trying especially if you are a man picking out a gift for a lady friend. One trick that you can do if you are unsure is to find out what scent she is currently using or what fragrance she likes best. This is a surefire way of not getting the gift wrong. Knowing her favorite brand of women's fragrance can help you eliminate the guesswork.

Choose the Fragrance For the Person You Love

Wearing a fragrance is not just about taking a perfume and applying it on certain parts of your body. It is much more than that. The way you take care to choose your dressing style, your hair style, your food, in the same way you need to think and decide when you are selecting perfumes.

It is important to combine the perfume that you wear with your clothe, make up and hair style. Similarly when you are planning upon perfume gifts there are certain points you need to take care of. The first few things that you need to take care of is:

Think if you have thought well about giving perfume gifts
Did you select the right perfume from the millions of fragrances available in the market?
Are you sure that the perfume which you have selected is the one that the person you want to gift it to wants
Will that person use the fragrance which you have selected

Are perfumes actually a utility gift?

Many times perfume has been used as gifts for a loved one. But often you will find most of them lying on the shelf without being used. This of course is an unfortunate way for a gift to end up. Thus, it is rather useful to spend more time when choosing the perfect fragrance as gift for the loved one. Hence it is wise to buy something that is useful and liked by the recipient. If the recipient likes the gift that you choose, then obviously it will make both you and your loved one delighted.

What Type of Gift it should be?

To begin with your needs, make sure that the recipient likes to wear perfume or not? Though it may seem like a very obvious question. But it is very important to know if the recipient has any kind of allergy or is sensitive to any kind of smell or fragrance. This can make the choice of perfume a bad gift idea. There are many people who doesn't like to wear fragrances. But these people certainly like to receive gifts like scented candles, lotion and perfume sachets.

Mistakes commonly made when choosing perfume as gifts

One common mistake made by men when choosing fragrances as gifts is that, they choose a fragrance which they would have smelled on some other person at some point of time. They make the mistake of thinking that the recipient who they are choosing the perfume for, will also like it. This point can be considered, but it is not necessarily a good idea. The right thing to do when selecting a perfume is, to find out which fragrance the recipient likes to wear. Once you have found it out, buy the same fragrance or something similar to it. If you are someone who is not very experienced about fragrances, then you shouldn't worry as you can make your choice from the perfumes available in the market. One good way to get some help in choosing the right fragrance is to buy perfume online. You can go online and visit the websites for perfumes. You can also get expert help through the websites selling perfumes.

Expressing Your Personality Through Fragrance

Of all our senses, the sense of smell is perhaps the most ignored as important. However, our sense of smell influences us in many more ways than we realize. Smells are often associated with strong memories. A scent can recall a warm summer day by the ocean or that rainy evening in Paris. Fragrances can invoke strong feeling associated with those memories. When it is time to choose a discount fragrance, it's important to choose one that expresses the wearer's personality. Your discount fragrances should invoke feelings that are descriptive of your personality.

A fragrance with a strong floral note express a feminine, traditional personality. People who are drawn to floral scents usually see themselves as feminine and enjoy rural settings and classical music. This personality type enjoys tradition. Women with this type of personality probably enjoy flowing fabrics, floral prints and cute, feminine shoes. Many classic women's discount fragrances have strong floral notes.

Fruity scented perfume should express a more self-indulgent personality. This personality loves to be pampered. A Fragrance with a clean fruity scent express a fun loving personality. Someone wearing a fruity fragrance is probably friendly and outgoing.

Fragrances consisting of musk and amber are often called oriental scents. These scents express a personality that enjoys exotic locales. People that are most drawn to these discount fragrances often enjoy jazz music. They're sexy, sensual personalities with expensive tastes.

Woody perfumes often come in two flavors. The lighter woody perfumes include fragrances with a clean, ocean scent and tend to be favored by those personalities who enjoy a day relaxing at the beach. People drawn to these scents are often calm and relaxed. The deeper woody aromas on the flip side, are often favored by jet setters. Those that love these discount fragrances have a personality that hungers for excitement and the thrill of something new.

How strong a scent is can also say something about its wearer's personality. Delicate scents that only leave a whisper or suggestion behind suggest more introverted personalities. Deep, long lasting scent, on the other hand, express a sensual and outgoing personality. Many men's discount colognes accomplish this goal.

The fragrance you wear can suggest a lot about your personality. While there are some generalities about the types of discount fragrances different personalities are drawn to, there are no hard rules. Buying discount fragrances means that you can afford to buy fragrances that express a personality that you want to express. For example, perhaps for a special evening date, you'd like to express a sensual feminine personality while your normal daytime fragrance expresses a fun and relaxed personality. Discount fragrances provide the opportunity to experiment and express who you want to be. Have fun with them. And don't forget to shop online for discount fragrances to save lots of money.

Fragrance and Chemical Sensitivity

People are becoming more familiar with the term, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity but many don't understand what it really is or realize that we are all at risk of developing it. In essence, MCS is the body's natural, allergic reaction following exposure to a variety of chemicals and toxins. This exposure can be from inhalation, ingestion and/or the topical application of chemicals commonly found in the products we use every day.

MCS can develop slowly over time as chemicals accumulate in your body, or develop suddenly from a single harsh exposure to chemicals like new carpeting in your home, a freshly painted wall or the use of pesticides in your yard. Toxic chemicals are also ingested in the form of food colors, preservatives and various food additives. Chemicals, (especially petroleum based ingredients) present in personal care products like shampoo, conditioner, soaps, facial creams, sunscreens and cosmetics, are absorbed into the skin which carries them into the blood stream.

The more than 48 million men, women, and children with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity experience allergy-like symptoms ranging from minor annoyances to life-threatening reactions. MCS can manifest as skin rashes, burning eyes, nausea, light headedness, headaches, sleeping problems, and digestive system disorders. The long-term effects include neurological problems and peripheral nerve damage, diabetes, arthritis, vascular disorders, including life threatening blood clotting; nutritional deficiencies, asthma, and sometimes even cancer.

Let's explore fragrance as just one common Chemical Sensitivity trigger:

Fragrances enter the body through inhalation, the mouth by ingestion and the skin by absorption.
There are more than 5,000 different fragrances in the products we use on a daily basis, yet only about 1,300 of them have been tested for safety. Those tests did not include respiratory, neurological, or systemic effects.
"Fragrance" on a product label is considered a trade secret, meaning the manufacturer is not required to identify the chemical makeup of the fragrance.
Six hundred or more chemical ingredients may be used to create a single fragrance.
Approximately 95% of the chemicals used in fragrances today are synthetic compounds derived from petroleum, including known toxins capable of causing cancer, birth defects, central nervous system disorders and allergic reactions.
The vast majority of the chemicals in fragrances consist of volatile organic compounds that are known to be respiratory irritants.
Inhaling fragrances can cause circulatory changes and electrical activity in the brain, triggering migraine headaches, the inability to concentrate, dizziness and fatigue.
A recent Environmental Working Group study found two synthetic musks in the cord blood of newborn babies. These musks have been associated with toxicity to the endocrine system.
A pregnant woman's use of some fragrances may expose her growing fetus to diethyl phthalate (DEP), a common perfume solvent linked to abnormal development of reproductive organs in baby boys and sperm damage in adult men.
Children may be more susceptible to the effects of fragrances because of their smaller size, their higher respiratory rate, and their thinner skin.

Fragrances have been used throughout history so why are people only recently suffering from their ill affects? Until the 20th century, perfumes were made from natural ingredients derived directly from spices, flowers, plants, herbs and animals. The Egyptian's were the first to use scents of cinnamon and honey with which to anoint their bodies. The use of fragrance played a huge role in daily Egyptian life, from burying the dead to personal hygiene, making fragrance a valuable commodity more precious than gold.

During the 1900's, advancements in chemical technology along with a rapidly growing population and a rising demand for perfumes and fragrance, led manufacturers to turn to inexpensive synthetic ingredients in lieu of natural plant and flower extracts that were far more costly and time consuming. In 1989, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health recognized 884 poisonous substances (chemicals) used in the fragrance industry. Yet, to this day, when you see the word fragrance on a product label, the chemicals used to create it are considered a "trade secret". What you don't know will hurt you!

When you use perfume, body lotion or soap made with synthetic fragrances, you are exposing yourself and others to powerful, harmful chemicals. The fragrances you wear may not adversely affect you, but they may cause those around you instant reactions including headaches, migraines, runny nose and eyes, breathing difficulty and sinus problems. Even people who aren't particularly chemically sensitive report discomfort when exposed to perfumes. As a result, many businesses across the United States and Canada, at the request of their employees, are voluntarily creating fragrance-free policies.

Discover Why and How to Decant Perfume

Amongst the perfumistas decanting from the large 50ml or 100ml bottles that perfumes tend to be purchased in is a fairly common occurrence. But why would anyone want to decant perfumes, and if they do how would they go about doing it?

There are a variety of reasons that someone might want to decant their perfume into a smaller container. One of the most common (and most useful) reasons is to create a 'travel-size' version of your favourite scent that you can take on holiday with you, or simply throw in your handbag to have available when you need it. Alongside this reason many perfume fans like to swap samples of perfumes with one another. By decanting a few millilitres they are able to give fellow perfume fans enough to try the perfume out for a few days and decide whether or not they like it. Additionally many perfume collectors have a huge selection, and they would rather not have to buy a full size bottle of each fragrance. These people are able to split bottles by decanting some into separate vials or atomisers.

Now that you are aware of some of the reasons for decanting perfume you're probably realising how useful it can be and thinking you should be doing that as well. So what will you need to get started, and how would you go about actually decanting the perfume.

The first step will be to ensure that you have all of the necessary supplies. Empty bottles can be purchased easily online and typically come in three styles: spray bottles, roll-on's and splash bottles. Everyone will have their own style preference but with roll-on bottles you will need to be particularly wary of dust and dead skin getting into the perfume and spoiling it. Bottles come in a wide range of sizes depending on your needs and if you intend to use smaller bottles (and even bigger bottles depending how steady your hands are) you will likely want to purchase a funnel; stainless steel is preferable as it won't retain any traces of the scent allowing you to reuse it. You may also want to use pipettes or syringes if you are planning on decanting into very small vials or atomisers.

Once you have all of the supplies the actual decanting process is fairly straightforward. I you are decanting from a splash bottle you will be able to simply pour the perfume straight between the two bottles. If you are decanting from a spray bottle however you might be able to unscrew the top but otherwise you will just have to get the nozzle as close to the receiving bottle as possible and spray the perfume straight in.

Understanding Fragrance Types

Most people are not aware that there are two different types of fragrances, and by fragrance type I'm referring to the actual construction of the fragrance as opposed to fragrance families (which deals more with the ingredients of a particular fragrance) or with concentrations such as eau de parfum and eau de toilette. While having an understanding of fragrance types is by no means a prerequisite for their enjoyment, it does help to know how fragrance types react when applied to the skin and how this affects the fragrances you choose.

Traditionally, fragrances have been developed using a three stage formulation and you will often see references to fragrance 'notes' which can be explained as follows:

Top Notes

This is essentially what gives off the first impression of a fragrance and is usually comprised of lighter, more volatile ingredients which can give a fragrance a sense of freshness. Typical top notes include citrus (lemon, grapefruit, bergamot), green notes (pine, mint, galbanum) and aldehyde.

Middle Notes

After several minutes, the top notes begin to blend with middle notes or what is often referred to as the 'heart' of a fragrance. The dominant notes of the heart are what defines a fragrance and are used to classify it into one of the fragrance families such as floral, woody or oriental. As the fragrance family names suggest there are a vast number of ingredients which can be combined to create unique scents.

Useful tip: if you're interested in fragrance families and would like to find out more about them then visit The Fragrance Foundation (fragrancedirectory.info/usadirectory/). This site has a comprehensive directory based on the work of Michael Edwards, a recognised guru in the world of perfume. Not only does the directory list all of the various families and sub-families but you can also look up your favourite perfumes to see what family they belong to and which other perfumes may be similar.

Base Notes

As the name suggests, these notes make up the underlying tones of a fragrance and what give it lasting appeal. Base notes are made up of the least volatile ingredients and popular ingredients include amber, vanilla and rare woods.

Although traditional fragrances have these separate notes, the transition from top to base should be almost imperceptible and the end result should be a harmonious blend of ingredients. In recent years however, a second fragrance type has emerged where there is no discernible transition from top to base. These fragrances are said to have a vertical formulation and tend to have a single dominating note as they settle.

So why is it useful to know how a particular fragrance formulation reacts when worn? Well it's really useful when testing perfumes. Think about the last time you tried a new perfume in store. Chances are you sprayed a little of the perfume on a blotter card or on your skin and had a quick sniff. While this may have given you an initial impression of the fragrance, it certainly wouldn't have given you a true sense of what the fragrance is like. For vertical fragrances this is less of an issue but for traditional fragrances that need time to develop, a quick sniff is usually not enough to decide whether or not a particular fragrance is for you. By understanding that fragrances need time you are less likely to judge a fragrance on first impressions. I test perfumes all the time and I can't count the number of times I've been initially disappointed by a particular perfume, only to come to love it as it has settled through the day. So keep this in mind next time you're looking for that signature scent and remember, fragrances, like most good things in life need time to fully appreciate them.

Designer Perfume - A Whale of an Idea

This article is one of a series of articles that we wrote, in order to explain in laymans terms, what and why animals play a role in designer perfume. That's right animals. In the last article we talked about the role that Musk Oil plays. In this article we will discuss another key animal ingredient used in many perfumes, good old Ambergris.

Ambergris has been used for centuries in the perfume industry. The original source of ambergris was from the sperm whale. That's right, a whale.

And here is the whales tale. One of the foods sperm whales love to eat is squid. Now they can eat some pretty good size squid. When humans eat squid (i.e. calamari) the squid is cleaned and the beak is removed. Well, whales are not so particular. They pretty much swallow it whole! Now the beak from a squid is indigestible even for a whale, In fact, they have found the beaks from giant squids in ambergris, floating in the sea.

Why floating in the sea you ask? Let me explain. It is believed that the whales intestine produces this waxy substance in order to coat hard, sharp indigestible stuff (a technical term) so that the object can be excreted by the whale with no damage to the intestinal tract.

At this point you are thinking to yourself, "What? It comes from whales intestines? Why in Gods name would you use it in perfume?" That's right! It is found in whale poop (another technical term)!

But this story does have a happy ending. When first expelled, this fatty precursor of ambergris has a pale white or grayish appearance, and does have a strong fecal odor. What would you expect to smell from a whales butt, perfume? (You see how I worked the word perfume into the conversation? More on that later.)

Now this floating whale poop can be found in many oceans, and sometimes it even washes up on shore. Now here's the happy ending part. After months and sometimes years of floating in the ocean, being photo-degraded and oxidized, the whale poop eventually hardens, and develops a dark gray or even black color, with a crusty wax like texture. And believe it or not, the original foul odor has been replaced by a sweet, earthy, marine and animalic fragrance. ( Is animalic really a word? Whatever, you know what I mean!)

Ok, so now we have this peculiar smelling ambergris. Why is it in perfumes? Well, most of the truly delectable, wonderful fragrances found in designer perfumes, wholesale perfumes and discount perfumes as well, are highly volatile. This means that they evaporate very quickly! So, perfume manufactures add what's referred to as a fixative compound, a very low volatility compound that absorbs the higher volatility compounds and makes them last longer.

So, guess what, ambergris is one of the best fixatives out there! It helps keep the floral and fruity fragrances to last longer while adding its own unique fragrance!

So, that is why ambergris is used. However, due to the huge demand for ambergris and its high cost, the world needed to find replacement compounds. Luckily, it has been chemically synthesized, into a variety of ambergris compounds, the most important of which is called Ambrox.

However, natural ambergris is still used. So if one day you are walking along the beach and you come across a clump of waxy, sweet, yet earthy smelling stuff. Take it home! You may be able to sell it. But remember to use rubber gloves. After all, it was once whale poop!

We hope you have found this article useful and amusing, while trying to teach you about what goes into designer perfumes.

Antique Perfume Bottles As A Collector's Gem

In recent years, the collection of antique perfume bottles has been a rising trend. More and more new collectors and dealers are forming everyday and looking for unique designer bottles of perfume. This upward trend is fuelled by the proliferation of usage of online auction sites by collectors and dealers to sell and buy their bottles. In fact, many collectors who are just starting out their personal collection likes to visit online auction sites like eBay and they have found many rare antique perfume bottles on sale there at very reasonable prices. This trend has also benefited dealers who now have an outlet to peddle their wares and still get the best possible prices for their unique bottles.

Of course, with more exposure, comes increased competition. At the online auction sites, prices are typically very buoyant due to the large number of people bidding on the same products and the larger number of products that are on sale. However, due to the large number of choices a bidder is exposed to, there are still plenty of bargains to be had. This increased competition has also benefited customers at all levels. Dealers now take the effort to include dimension and some history of the individual bottles for sale. They have also included a scanned photo of the bottle so that potential customers know exactly what they are paying for. In this way, no customer will be buying something in the dark and because of this, many great friendships have blossomed between buyers and sellers over the years through online auction sites.

Although we mentioned that prices can be quite fast changing on online auction sites, it does not mean that all the unique bottles of perfume that are sold through that channel is expensive. In fact, there can still be very good bargain and deals if you take the time to shop around first. For example, recently a rare Mickey Mouse perfume bottle from the 1930's have been recently sold to the tune of $375 dollars. It could have fetched a higher price if the original box was still in a mint condition.

If you are a seller who has collected some antique perfume bottles and are looking to sell some, you should take note of some of the factors that could potentially increase the price of your product. First, your product should preferably be in a mint condition and should include an original box of packaging. If it is a packaged set item, all the items should be included also. Second, if your product comes with additional accessories like a display stand or a presentation platform, you should also include it with your bottle because it is treated as a whole item. Third, if a buyer is interested in your product, do include means of communication. There were instances where a seller was slow or unclear in their response to the buyer that the buyer gave up even though the product was a very rare perfume bottle. Fortunately, this factor can be easily solved with the Internet, where communication can take place simultaneously and in real time so that any issues can be ironed out before the buyer and the seller commits to the price and the sale.

Aromatherapy is gaining increasing popularity in our lives. The therapy uses fragrance as a tool to heal the soul and calm the senses. Unlike candles and incense sticks, which come with the possible hazards of causing burns and creating irritating smoke, the reed diffuser is a safe and healthy way to fill any room with fragrance. The display of reeds inside the scent diffuser looks elegant and enhances the decor of the room, along with working on the body and mind to mitigate stress. Many people find it an effective way to provide long-lasting scent in an attractive way.

This home fragrance product is a striking arrangement of vase that is filled with the scented oil of your choice and reeds that, once inserted into the oil, will draw the oil up through multiple channels inside this straw and allow it to evaporate into the air thus infusing the room with fragrance throughout the day. The number of reeds dipped inside the vase will determine the intensity of fragrance because the more reeds that are used the stronger the scent will be. This also allows its use in somewhat restricted areas like offices, kitchens, bathrooms, where you do not want smoke or have an unattended flame. Perfume For Men - Fragrance Classification and Grouping

Being able to class perfumes in some sort of grouping is very important both for the perfume industry and the customers who are the end users.

One of the main reasons for this is because it makes identifying the fragrance notes, characters and the perfume ingredients in fragrances much easier.

Perfume classification and the benefits that it provides are particularly useful to perfume lovers and collectors who are very passionate about the world of perfume.

For instance, fragrance grouping can make it easier for you to work out what types of perfume last the longest, works with your body chemistry or will make the ideal gift for a particular person.

It can help you to make informed choices before forking out your money on expensive scents. The following categories and subcategories are the main classification of men's perfume:

Chypre: These are generally built on outdoor type fragrance notes and the accords of bergamot, oakmoss, patchouli and labdanum. A lot of men's perfumes are composed in this group. A good example is Ange au Demon by Givenchy. Other subcategories in this group are fruity chypre, floral chypre, floral aldehydic chypre and green chypre.

Citrus: This is another popular category of men's colognes and contains lots of fresh citrus notes. A famous example is Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger. Subcategories are spicy citrus, aromatic citrus, floral chypre citrus, woody citrus and floral woody citrus.

Fougere: Scents in this group usually have sharp herbaceous top notes that are built on a base of lavender, coumarin and oakmoss. Famous examples are Cool Water by Davidoff and Eternity For Men by Armani. Subcategories of this perfume grouping include aromatic fougère, fruity fougère, spicy fougère and amber fougère.

Fresh/Aquatic: A lot of popular perfumes and unisex fragrances are made in this style. They have fresh, clean notes that are sometimes accented with fruity, green and light floral notes. Issey Miyaki perfumes and Egyptian musk are good examples.

Green: Perfumes in this family smell of fresh cut grass and hay notes mixed with light fruity notes and other herbaceous notes like galbanum, lavender, rosemary, pine etc. A famous example is Gio by Giorgio Armani.

Leather: These styles of blends are almost exclusively men's perfume. They have well defined deep notes of honey, tobacco, wood, amber and wood tars in them that are reminiscent of the smell of leather. Floral leather and tobacco leather are other subcategories of this perfume group.

It opens up a totally new and exciting world for perfume lovers, by laying bare the composition secrets of artisan perfumers.

Fragrance - Is it Heaven Scent?

These days, the vast majority of men and women consider a quick squirt of their favourite perfume or aftershave an intrinsic part of their morning ritual. You could argue that the criteria for the scent you wear each day should purely be based around the smell that you, yourself, find most pleasing; but the marketing of fragrances means that they are considered a key tool in alluring a partner and therefore at either a conscious or sub-conscious level we are all buying fragrances that we hope will please others too.

So, from this can we deduce that fragrances were developed to assist in our mating rituals? Actually no - the history of perfume actually has more spiritual roots, originally created for religious purposes to honour the gods. It is recorded that ancient civilisations dating as far back as 7000 years ago were using fragrance as part of their offerings to their countless deities. Fires were created, to which were added a fragrant 'pot pourri' of aromatic wood, incense, gum resins, herbs and spices and people walked through the smoke to wear the perfume. In fact, the word perfume stems from the Latin term per fumum, meaning "through smoke".

It was from these origins that the concept of perfume arose, with techniques for extracting and preserving fragrances through boiling, pressing, drying, distillation and even blending with fats practised throughout the ancient world. However it was not until Roman monks discovered the distillation of alcohol that perfume production, in the true sense of the word, became possible.

The multi-million pound industry that we know today perhaps began its journey in earnest in the 18th century, with the establishment of a number of perfume houses. Techniques were improved and the "juices" as perfumers called their products became more sophisticated, and throughout the ages women have loved perfume including many famous women of our times.

At one time fragrance was a luxury for royalty; in 800BC, The Queen of Sheba used perfume to seduce King Solomon. Catherine de Medici - future wife of Henry II - bought her own perfumer with her as part of her entourage when she came to Britain, and she even established a perfume laboratory in Provence! Queen Elizabeth I was famous for her love of perfume; her clothes, gloves and shoes were steeped in the fragrance from damask roses and even the rooms of her palaces were sprinkled with scent.

Perhaps these historical women were the forerunners of today's celebrities whose names are now closely associated with fragrance - albeit for more commercial reasons! Kylie, J Lo, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sean Paul and even Jade Goody have all placed their monikers on a bottle of scent! In fact, it could be argued that in today's culture there are some who see celebrity as an almost 'god-like' status, so perhaps we haven't come that far from the religious roots of perfume all those thousands of years ago.

It Must Be 'Must de Cartier' Perfume

The Cartier name first became known for producing fine jewelry in 1847 in the heart of Paris. In 1904, Cartier radically changed the watch industry by creating the first known wristwatch. It revolutionized the concept keeping time. The Cartier Company is committed to producing perfection in every product line they develop, and in 1981, they entered the world of fragrance. Cartier released Must de Cartier, a fragrance that broke the mold of traditional perfumes and colognes. Must de Cartier introduce the green scent of galbanum as the base component for this fresh revolutionary fragrance. This powerful galbanum oil from the native plant of Persia has been used in various ways for thousands of years. It is a fragrance that is mentioned in the Old Testament as an ingredient to be used for the fragrance of the Tabernacle. Even today, scientists, medical researchers, and aroma therapists still explore the unlimited potential of the galbanum oil. Must de Cartier blends this powerfully mysterious oil scent along with the sensual power of jasmine and vanilla. In keeping with their other products, Cartier entered the field of fragrance to push it to a different application and purpose. Just as the wristwatch created functionality to jewelry, Cartier wanted the 'Must de Cartier' women's fragrance to be completely new, personal, and able to provoke emotion and response from the wearer to those in their presence.

An additional feature enjoyed by those that purchase and use Cartier products, is the beautiful and elite perfume bottles. The many years of fine jewelry production and craftsmanship carried over to the design, colors, and styling of Cartier fragrances. Each glass container has its own unique offering or presentation; one container is designed in the shape of an apple, while another is made so that it may only stand on its side. The containers as well as the fragrances they hold create an attitude of unparalleled originality. To complete the entire Cartier experience, the must de Cartier perfume bottle is packaged in the exclusive Cartier 'Red Box' which features a uniquely configured white box complete with the special Cartier wax logo seal that is tied around the exterior.

The Cartier line of fragrance is admittedly not for everyone. It is clear that this exclusive line of perfume fragrances released in 1981 were intended to be unique in every way. The Cartier perfumes were probably the first attempt at creating a 'scent' that would actually bring about changes of attitude and a response of sorts from those that smell its fragrance. Were they attempting to create a love potion? You might want to purchase a Cartier fragrance today and find out for yourself.

Antique Collectible Perfume Bottles

When you mention about the material that perfume bottles are made from, the first answer that comes to people's mind will be glass. However, traditionally, these bottles of perfumes were also made from other materials and were even at one time, widely being used to produce different designs of bottles to contain perfume. Another reason these two materials were used in the past was because in the middle of the 18th century, glass in England was highly taxed.

Enamel perfume bottles were the trend in the 18th century and formed a large part of designer perfume bottles. These enamel bottles were made by large perfume houses such as Bilston or Wednesbury. From them, famous designers of bottles of perfumes emerged. Some of these artist are William Beilby and the Homer brothers whose work are now very highly regarded and are considered rare art pieces. The decorations of these perfume bottles can consist mostly of general landscapes and flowers with some of the more intricate designs featuring portraits. These enamel bottles are very uniform in character, having the same characteristics and form of contemporary porcelain.

After the middle of the 18th century, porcelain is quickly catching on to be a defacto material in producing unique perfume bottles. These highly decorative perfume bottles were usually made to model after humans or animals. These designs enable the portion where the head was located to be opened so that perfume can be dispensed. Early designs included a stopper to prevent perfume from escaping the bottle. Later designers replaced the simple stopper with intricate designs like flowers, birds or fruits. The most famous porcelain designers that came out from that era were Charles Gouyn and Nicholas Sprimont.

One of the interesting fact that occured during the late 18th century was that both these enamel and porcelain perfume bottles had many imitations and these imitations were mass produced in very large quantities. The organization that did the mass production was Samson of Paris in the 19th century. However, these imitations have since become rare collector's items of their own due to the lack of original samples.

There were many reasons why perfume bottles were so popular back then. One of the reason was that ladies wore corsets which were very tight and this constricted their breathing. Sometimes they will pass out due to the lack of oxygen in their body. These perfume bottles not only contain perfume but also smelling salts to awaken the ladies. These perfume bottles were also used as as form of jewellery to be worn hence explaining the numerous beautiful designs.

In the later part of the 19th century, to create more unique and beatiful designs, different types of ceramic and glass materials were fused together to imitate ivory, with moulded or applied ornament representing Chinese or Japanese idioms. Some of these are made to re-create the impression of traditional Chinese snuff bottles with their knopped stopper sometimes replaced with slender gold chains.

The Sweet Fragrance of Scented Geraniums

Ideal plants for those value fragrance rather than color, are the scented-leaved geraniums.

These offer a combination of pleasant perfumes and a wide variety of foliage form and texture. Since they are plants that are comparatively easy of culture, maintaining a collection is relatively simple.

Scented geraniums can be grown as house plants, in a greenhouse or as garden subjects left out all year in the more temperate south and southwestern parts of the country. They demand only ordinary care. Give them good garden loam, sunshine, moderate water, a reasonable amount of feeding, as well as occasional pinching, and they will thrive happily.

The scented varieties never become dormant. During dark, winter days, to be sure, they do not grow as fast as in spring and summer, but they always remain in full leaf, their hidden fragrance awaiting the slightest touch. As house plants, they are excellent, where they succeed in any sunny window. They are also not excessively sensitive to house conditions, such as dry atmosphere, high temperatures and the occasional presence of minute amounts of gas.

When to Water

Water these geraniums only when the soil begins to dry, but then do it thoroughly. One way to determine the moisture of the soil is to feel it with the fingers. Another is to tap the pot lightly with a stick. The quality and pitch of the tapping sound indicates the degree of saturation. A dull, heavy sound means the soil is moist, while a sharp, ringing sound that it is dry. Some growers, after a little practice, can determine the amount of moisture by the weight of the pot. Always, however, take care to avoid the easy method of watering plants by a set schedule. The condition of the plants themselves should be the only guide for watering.

Pinching plants is necessary to induce branching. The blind -grower finds out when to do this by feeling their shape. Only the growing tips should he removed gently with the fingers. Since the scented varieties are naturally more bushy than the zonals, they require less pinching.

Repotting plants like the butterfly bush is needed only a couple of times a year. When the pot becomes full of roots, move to a larger container. At any time, the root ball can be gently removed from the pot and the roots felt with the fingers to determine if repotting is necessary. The "scenteds" will be healthier, however, if kept slightly pot bound to maintain firm, woody growth. Plants grown from cuttings taken in late summer are satisfactory for house plants and do not require so much room as older, larger specimens.

Fertilizing is scarcely a problem. Newly-potted cuttings do not need feeding for several months. After that give a light sprinkling of ammonium sulphate or a balanced chemical fertilizer. The root ball should be moist before feeding to avoid burning the tender roots. Fertilizing during the period of slow growth is not advisable.

Does Pheromone Perfume Really Work?

First of all, what are pheromones? In a nutshell, a pheromone is a naturally occurring chemical signal secreted by insects, animals and humans. Upon secretion, it triggers a response from other insects, animals or humans.

For example, is an animal senses danger, it will release an alarm or fear pheromone. Other animals in the vicinity will respond to that signal, and they will likely all flee.

So, why would humans want to put something like that in perfume? Well, while we often just wear a fragrance to please ourselves, we may at times have another motive when choosing a scent. Perhaps there is someone you'd like to attract, or you'd just like to get their attention. What if you could apply a perfume that may help you in your endeavor? You see, there is also a sex pheromone, and in animals a female that is exuding this chemical will be advertising the fact that she is available for breeding.

Now I'm sure that's not the message you are trying to give, but you get the idea. What if you could wear a scent that would send out a message to the opposite sex? One that lets them know you're interested?

Well, the scientific studies behind this are vast, and perfume manufacturers have been trying to corner the market on this for years, but there still is the question of whether or not it really works.

And frankly, there isn't really a conclusive answer. The scientific community still doesn't have enough data to prove anything. Having said that, there is scientific evidence that pheromones can and do work, just not with all the people, all the time. And for those they do work with, scientists can't explain why.

Okay, so what does that mean for you? Do you just walk away, saying to yourself it will never work for me? Why be such a defeatist?

First, it stands to reason that not all pheromone perfumes will work. I'm sure there are some out there that are nothing more than a marketing ploy. But if you're willing to try a few, and do some testing, think of the payback. What is a bottle of perfume could land you the man of your dreams? Okay, that might be a bit far fetched, but then again, maybe it could work.

Why not leave the scientific uncertainty behind you? After all, there is proof that it does work for some people, just not all people. And don't be hindered by what others say about a certain product. Just because something didn't work for them, doesn't mean the same will be true of you. Each and every one of use has a different chemical makeup. So, buy yourself a bottle of pheromone perfume and have fun testing it out!

EDT, EDP, EDC? The Various Types Cologne And Perfume

Not all cologne and perfume is made equally. In fact there are four different concentrations of perfume, each one being very different from the other.

In this article I am going to discuss the four different variations of cologne as well as what each concentration may be used for.

Did you know that most cologne's and perfumes are comprised mainly of alcohol? In fact, most of the fragrances that you see in any shop will only be comprised of 4-10% of actual scented compounds. Of course this varies depending on the perfume that you look at. The rest of the 86-90% of the bottle is made up of alcohol and water.

Some fragrances actually have a lower concentration of scented compounds, and some have more. This is where the commonly used EDP, EDT, and EDC come into play. Let's take a look at what these mean.

Perfume - Also known as Perfume extract, 'Perfume' is the most concentrated and smoothest of the four types. Typically made up of a 20-40% concentration of scented compounds, perfume is definitely the most expensive to buy.

Eau de Parfum - EDP is typically made up of an 8-16% concentration of scented compounds. EDP is probably the most common type of concentration you will see at the store. An EDP scent will usually fade after four hours, but the base notes can linger for a 24 hour period. Fragrances with an EDP concentration are perfect if you need an all day scent

Eau de Toilette - EDT is another very common concentration found in many fragrances. EDT is typically made up of a 4-8% concentration of scented compounds. Some people find that some EDT perfumes last a long while, but generally these are better left for night time use where the scent isn't needed for as long.

Eau de Cologne - EDC isn't commonly found in any fragrances anymore. It doesn't last that long, and is typically only made with a 2-4% concentration of scented compounds.

Now you will know what all those fancy French names are on the side of your favorite mens cologne bottle. Whether you need a longer duration scent for work, or something a little shorter for the clubs, you are now one step ahead of the crowd!

How To Easily Choose The Right Perfume For Your Lady

Choosing the right perfume can be difficult and because it is also considered an intimate gift buying the wrong perfume can backfire on you and get you the opposite result of that which you hoped for.

The first thing you need to do is do some homework, meaning research. Look at your lady's perfume bottles, the ones that are nearly empty will be her favorites. If there is one there that is nearly full chances are she doesn't wear it often or doesn't like it. Hint around and ask her what types of fragrances she likes and dislikes.

Humans are very sensory oriented and our sense of smell is no different. Certain perfumes can elicit strong reactions in both the wearer and the person reacting to the scent. Perfumes are made not only to attract but to also relax someone. If you aren't totally sure what kind of perfume to buy you can always play it safe and get something in the aromatherapy line. If you go this route, bear in mind that vanilla scents are considered to relax and a peppermint or lemon scent will be more stimulating.

Buying a woman's perfume for your wife or girlfriend is serious business. They expect you to know what they like, so you better know. This is your chance to show that you really do pay attention and that you know what she likes and doesn't like. If you get it right you will get rewarded way beyond the small bottle of perfume, get it wrong and you'll be accused of buying something your old girlfriend liked!

Other than the snooping I already mentioned, if you are buying the gift for a special occasion such as Christmas or Valentines Day you can be a little more upfront about asking than if you were just trying to surprise her. Take a look at her wish list, if she has perfume on the list ask her what types she likes. As soon as you can go write it down so you don't forget, you know how we men are.

You should be very sure of your selection when you buy the perfume for your lady so make sure you have done your research so that you don't end up upsetting her instead of thrilling her. Remember, this is just like buying lingerie it isn't about what you like it is about what she likes! She is the one that will be wearing it to school or work and therefore it's for her not you. But, if you get it right she will think of you every time someone compliments her on her fragrance and that my friend, is priceless.

Deciding Where to Buy Wholesale Perfume

We all love our perfume, and sometimes our most favorites come with a price tag large enough to feed a family of three for a few months or more. What are we suppose to do when we want to smell good, but nearly choke on the proposed pricing of our favorite perfume? Taking out a second mortgage may cross the minds of some when shopping for name brands however; one option is to buy it at wholesale.

Have you been wondering where to buy wholesale perfume?

Wholesale perfume is available in such places as online wholesale companies as well as some of those small businesses that buy by bulk and then pass the savings on to you, their customer. However, you should always do the research needed to find out that the company you are buying it from is a genuine and respectable company, because just as in any other business, there are those who are only scamming you for your money.

You should find out if they have, a return policy and money back guarantee as well as a telephone number that works. This means that you really should pick up your phone and give them a call, just to make sure that it is legit, although there are genuine wholesalers around, it is better to be safe than it is to be sorry.

You may have to gather together with your friends; family members perhaps even the neighbors, who may be interested in ordering their own perfumes to come up with a large enough order to satisfy any particular wholesale company order requirements. You can always call around or search online while comparing the different types of perfumes and wholesale perfume companies so that you are better able to find a wholesale perfume that is right for you and your budget.

It is in your best interest to find a wholesale outlet or you may find someone who buys a surplus stock of a certain perfume, then makes a profit while saving his or her customers a little money. Keep in mind, however, that most wholesale perfume outlets may require you to purchase a certain amount before reaching a quota that will amount to a wholesale price for your order.

Always remember to take note of the quantity size of the perfume you are buying, as sometimes you may receive a four-ounce bottle of perfume when you are expecting a five-ounce bottle of perfume. You should also take care to notice if they state whether their perfumes are name brand or simply smell like a name brand.

Then there is the profitable option of becoming an affiliate. You can buy your own wholesale perfume, while earning an income in selling to your friends, family and others. Even if you would like to buy Victoria by Victoria Secret perfume, Gothic perfume oil and many others or perhaps even Kids perfume sets.
